Accessibility policy

Zoom on a webpage

• Open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button and then select Zoom.

• Select a predefined zoom level, or select a custom level by selecting Custom and entering a zoom value.

Make text larger or smaller

• Open Internet Explorer and press the Alt key to display the menu bar.

• Select View, and then select Text size.

• Choose to make text larger or smaller than the size on the screen.

Use a keyboard to surf the web

Press the Tab key to move forward and Shift + Tab to move backward through screen elements like the following:

• Links that are text or images

• Text fields on website forms

• Hotspots on image maps

• The address bar

• The tabs bar

• HTML frames

You can also press the F7 key to use caret browsing to select text and move around within a webpage using the standard navigation keys on your keyboard—Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, and the arrow keys.

Change the font, formatting, and colours on pages

To choose website font

• Open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button and select Internet options.

• Select the General tab, and then, under Appearance, select Fonts.

• Select the fonts you want to use, select OK, and then select OK again.

To choose website colors

• Open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button and select Internet options.

• Select the General tab, and then, under Appearance, select Colors.

• Clear the Use Windows colors check box.

• For each color that you want to change, select the color box, select a new color, and then select OK.

• Select OK, and then select OK again.

To override all font and color settings for websites

• Open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button and select Internet options.

• Select the General tab, and then, under Appearance, select Accessibility.

• Select the Ignore colors specified on webpages, Ignore font styles specified on webpages, and Ignore font sizes specified on webpages check boxes.

• Select OK, and then OK again.

Make Internet Explorer work better with a screen reader or voice recognition software

• Open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button and select Internet options.

• Select the Advanced tab.

  • Make one or more of the following changes:

  • Set the cursor to determine where to read or magnify. Under Accessibility, select the Move system caret with focus/selection changes check box.

  • Display text in place of pictures. Under Accessibility, select the Always expand Alt text for images check box. Under Multimedia, clear the Show pictures check box.

  • Stop page transitions from causing problems with your screen reader or voice recognition software. Under Browsing, clear the Use smooth scrolling check box. Under Multimedia, clear the Show pictures check box.

  • Help prevent webpage sounds from interfering with your screen reader. Under Multimedia, clear the Play sounds in webpages check box.

• Select OK.

To zoom in or out:

• Click the three vertical dots in the top right to open the menu.

• Next to where it says 'Zoom' click '+' to zoom in and '-' to zoom out.

• Alternatively you can also zoom in by pressing 'Ctrl' + '+' and use 'Ctrl' + '-' to zoom out. 'Ctrl' + '0' will return zoom to the default level.

To change font or page size for all webpages:

• Click the three dots in the top right and then click 'settings'.

• At the bottom of the page that this opens click 'Show advanced settings'.

• Under the 'Web content' heading you can change the font size by selecting from the 'font size' drop down menu. You can also click 'Customize fonts' to change default fonts. You can change zoom level on all webpages by selecting from the 'page zoom' drop down.

To change colours

To change browser colours or view in high contrast you'll need to install an extension which allows this, such as the High Contrast extension. There should be a variety of extensions available on the chrome web store.

To zoom in or out:

• Click the three lines at the top right to open the menu.

• Near the top is a '+' and a '-' which can be used to control the zoom level.

• Alternatively you can also zoom in by pressing 'Ctrl'+ '+' and use 'Ctrl'+'-' to zoom out. 'Ctrl'+'0' will return zoom to the default level.

Set fonts and colours:

• Click the three lines at the top right then click 'options'.

• Click 'Content' on the left.

• Under 'Fonts & Colours' you can change the default font and font size from the drop down lists.

• More font options can be accessed by click 'Advanced'. You can also disable any custom fonts by unchecking the 'Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above' box.

To change colours click 'Colours' under the 'Advanced' button.
